Environmentalists VS Reality

Nate Beeler's cartoon in the Washington Examiner today points out the basic flaw in the extreme environmentalists and global warmers premises. -- They ignore the possibility of God.

Big Laws vs Little Laws

"When you break the big laws, you do not get freedom; you do not even get anarchy. You get the small laws." - G.K. Chesterton, Daily News, 7/29/1905

1. After 2012, U.S. citizens will no longer choose the type of light bulbs they buy and use. Only the florescent bulbs will be available.

2. Not content to merely outlaw the use of trans fats by restaurateurs, N.Y. Legislators are now crafting a law to prevent them from using any salt when preparing food for public consumption. This is after they prohibited the sale of pate foie gras.

3. Every state has passed adult seat belt and baby car seat laws to save lives. These laws were promoted by the same people who insist on killing babies in the womb and who openly support euthanasia.

4. Daylight savings time laws force us to change our sleep/wake patterns twice a year despite the fact that the rate of heart attacks increases 6% to 10% the first three days after the spring time change. More Americans disapprove than approve it, but it's the law in all but two states.

5. Federal BATF agents recently confiscated a shipment of toy pellet guns made of pot metal because they claimed the guns could be modified to work as machine guns. The fact that the pellets are plastic and pot metal would disintegrate before firing bullets seems to be irrelevant to the case.

6. Officials in two states have barred Christians from holding Bible studies/prayer meetings in their own homes, even though no complaints had been lodged about noise or parking problems.

7. Most Democrat Congressional Clowns are working as hard as they can to put 157 new agencies between every patient and his physician to decide when, how, and if the patient will be treated and the physician paid. There is no mention of the additional costs of the new agencies and the personnel to work in them.

8. Each spring brings a new group of lawsuits over what may or may not be said at graduation services, even by the students. Already most public schools no longer allow even a moment of silent meditation, much less a prayer, during the school day or at sporting events. Under the guise of anti discrimination laws, university level Christian organizations are being threatened with expulsion unless they agree to allow atheists to hold elected office in the group.

9. Federal regulators have developed thousands of pages of rules to "save" the environment which encroach on personal liberty even when dealing with private, not public, property. Recently they officially declared carbon dioxide (which we exhale with every breath and which plants need to survive) a menace to the environment as they prepare the Cap and Trade bill to further limit personal freedom and injure our hopes of economic recovery.

10. Other draconian environmental laws either hinder or stop Americans from engaging in ordinary production and sale of legal substances that everyone needs - oil, gas, and coal. They ignore the fact that we have so much oil that in some areas, it seeps up out of the ground and ruins the pristine beaches. So American consumers pay Muslim countries exorbitant prices for their oil while would-be American producers sit around unemployed.

G. K. Chesterton wrote the quotation above regarding government encroaching on the freedoms of ordinary citizens one hundred and five years ago. He was concerned with the growing tendency to ignore the Ten Commandments (The Big Laws) and the Judeo-Christian heritage of Western Civilization, while governments established more and more regulations that encroached into everyone's daily life. Since then the small laws have continued to grow in number and scope to such a degree that most young people have no concept of individual liberty Americans enjoyed one hundred years ago.

Environmentalists Are Dangerous

Rachel Carson, revered by many as a saint of the environmental movement, is responsible for more deaths of innocents than Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot and other twentieth century pikers put together. As a result of her book, Silent Spring, sixty million people have died from malaria.

For forty eight years, the Mass Media, the education establishment, and other cultural leaders have consistently ignored or ridiculed those who questioned the world wide ban on DDT. Those critics have complained since the book was published that Carson manipulated the data and made wildly exaggerated claims. However, to date, the ban still stands while the body count continues to mount.

Doctor Zero has a post summarizing the details at The Green Death. He also includes information on other deaths caused by radical environmentalists. The radical Green Movement not only kills economies, it kills people too. It's time we demanded truth and transparency from these groups before allowing them any more power or influence.

Hitler Addresses Climategate

At last we've found Hitler's reaction to the expose of the ongoing fraud regarding the "science" behind the global warming theories!

Fairkaye brings it to you in case you missed it on YouTube.

PS Would all of you please inform your personal Congressional Clowns that they're going to look really, really stupid if they continue pushing the Cap and Trade bill. I understand that it's still viable.

Obama Needs Our Help

Somebody must get word to him about the leaked emails from the Climate Research group in England. He must not be aware of the biggest world wide scandal in recent history. Surely, if he knew that the global warming "science" is standing on shaky ground, if not directly on thin air, he would make an announcement and call off his trip to Copenhagen, wouldn't he?

Here are a few suggestions for articles to email to him from the bountiful list available on the Internet:

Sweetness and Light has numerous articles on the scandal including "Even the NY Times Begins to See the CRU Hoax."

UK Telegraph has "East Anglia Does U-Turn in Climate-Change Row."

Clive Crook wrote an excellent article in The Atlantic: “The stink of intellectual corruption is overpowering.”

Wall Street Journal: If you can’t trust scientists…

Christopher Booker (UK): Worst Scientific Scandal of our Generation

Yet Another Petition for You

Here is another opportunity to make use of your *First Amendment right to "petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Go to Your Energy Opinion to sign a letter to an agency within the Department of Energy. This agency, Minerals Management Services, will accept public comments until September 21, then they will decide when, where, and if we can drill for American oil between 2010 and 2015. This decision will be our last chance to use our own natural resources until 2015. Otherwise, we will continue to be held captive by despotic regimes of other oil producing countries and unproven pie-in-the-sky schemes of so called "green" energy companies.

Once you've signed the letter, please forward this information to everyone who shares your views about the folly of ignoring our own resources and ask them to sign also. If we can flood the system with protests, maybe we can have some effect on their decision. Who knows what could happen to the price of oil between now and 2015?

*Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Food Costs Going Up?

I don't ever remember paying more than $1.00 per avocado in my many years of buying groceries. But this week, the lowest price I've found is $1.12, with much higher prices at several grocery chains. According to some prognosticators, this may be a portent for the near future all over the US.

But it's not just avocados. Sugar, sorghum, corn, and wheat crops have been bad due to drought conditions or bad weather in several states, especially *California and Texas, which will cause both price increases and shortages in those commodities and everything that either eats them or is made from them. There may be a temporary decrease in the price of beef as ranchers sell off their herds early, but expect higher prices down the road.

Consider buying and storing while it's relatively easy and cheap.

*Remember that at least part of the problem in California lies with the EPA which is redirecting the resevoir water to save the smelts instead of saving the crops for the people.

Green Jobs Czar vs Glenn Beck

Van Jones, a black activist who has been appointed Obama’s Green Jobs Czar, gained his political experience as a radical environmentalist. He bragged in a 2005 interview that he was using environmentalism to fight for racial and class justice. He was so angered by the Rodney King riots of 1992 that he became a communist. Since then he has worked with /or founded a number of radical groups:
• STORM – or Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, primarily black group advocating “third world Marxism”
• The Apollo Alliance – a coalition of labor, business, community leaders, and environmental groups favoring a “green” revolution
• Green for All – an activist environmental organization with mostly black membership
• Colors of Change – an activist group organized to "strengthen Black America's political voice"

Colors of Change is the group that persuaded many advertisers to withdraw their ads from Glenn Beck’s popular television show on Fox News. The show has done several segments recently that were critical of both President Obama and Van Jones.

Is The Sky Falling?

According to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, it is. Speaking to the Global Economic Forum in Incheon, North Korea conference last week, he said, “We have just four months. Four months to secure the future of our planet.”

Sounding even more panicky than Al Gore, he spoke of both droughts and floods occurring because of Global Warming, causing food shortages, malnutrition, social unrest, and death. Fortunately, he believes there is a solution.

The simple solution for avoiding total catastrophe is for wealthy nations to allocate new money for environmental concerns to the UN at the Copenhagen Conference in December, approximately four months from now.

On the other hand, lots and lots of money has already funded our EPA which, in turn, is creating its own drought in the San Joaquin Valley. Crops and trees wither in the sun, farmers abandon their land, crop workers have no crops to maintain or pick, and soon grocery prices will rise as America loses the produce we’ve come to depend on.

The media frequently repeats the state officials’ claim California has experienced a three-year drought, although the state’s Department of Water Resources reports that state reservoirs have received 80 to 95% of the yearly rain.

Instead of allotting water from the reservoirs to the farms to protect food for human beings, the Environmental Protection Agency is protecting a three-inch smelt. Thus, the water is diverted to San Francisco bay and out to the Pacific Ocean. This spring, the official explanation changed to protecting whales because defending smelts makes for bad publicity.

And so in a state with reservoir capacity to irrigate 4,000,000 acres, a dust bowl is developing and one town now suffers from 40% unemployment and long bread lines.

But if we just sent more money to Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, and maybe, a few extra dollars to the EPA, this problem would be solved.

On the other hand, when it comes to global warming, I’ve always wondered why everyone was so excited. If indeed, the summers in Atlanta ever get so hot that Yankees retire in Pennsylvania, we’d all just move North a couple of hundred miles. The US might lose Florida, but think of all the acreage in the Northwest Territories now open to farming. I’m sure our Canadian cousins would welcome us.

Apparently, some people agree with me. Minnesotans for Global Warming have established a website, www.m4gw.com, and written a Global Warming Anthem. Watch the video and sing along.

Just As I Suspected

According to Rasmussen Reports, the majority of Americans dislike the new law that will force everyone to use flouresent bulbs beginning in 2012. In fact, 72% think that it’s none of the Federal Government’s business what kind of bulbs they use. Many are quietly stocking up in preparation for the dreaded day. Others quietly hope that the Public Monarchs (We thought we were voting for Public Servants, but we got Monarchs instead.) now in control of our government will relent and change the law before it goes into effect.

When The Cat’s Away, The Mice Will Play

While the US media spent 12 days keening for Michael Jackson, our Congressional Clowns continued their headlong rush to pass additional damaging legislation.

The financially destructive Cap and Trade bill passed the House with provisions that prove the “green” movement is more about control of citizens than about the environment. Some of the items seldom mentioned are regulations that force bureaucrats to inspect your home in person before allowing you to obtain a building permit to remodel anything. Then they get to come again before you can put it on the market; if they decide anything is amiss, you have to correct it before it’s advertised.

Those freedom restrictions are in addition to increasing utility costs for every household and increasing costs on everything that’s manufactured in America and thus eliminating jobs in the process.

Not only was it passed without being read, the staffers had not even finished writing the bill before the final vote was taken.

The media didn’t mention those items because what little time they had left after covering Michael Jackson’s family, friends, influence, music, wealth, will, lawsuits, and needle marks was used to advertise the “need” for Democrat versions of health care reform. As frequently happens nowadays, competing bills by Republicans like Dr. Tom Coburn that promote natural market forces to effect savings in health care were deemed unworthy to be brought to public attention.

But, the coup de grĂ¢ce was delivered by our dear friend, Barney Frank. He used the distractions in the news to introduce TARP for Main Street Act of 2009. As has become routine, the name of the bill does nothing to reveal its outcome. It’s anything but a bill for Main Street.

When Congress passed the TARP bill last fall, the law was written to force banks to pay dividends and loan payments to the general fund of the Treasury to reduce the public debt. Its supporters repeatedly reassured us that TARP was really an investment and we would eventually enjoy a profit.

But Barney’s fingers got itchy when a little bit of money began to dribble into the coffers the second week of June. So he introduced a bill to change the original intention of the TARP bill and instead use the money to fund some of his favorite causes. To wit:
1. Use a billion or so to fund a low-rental housing project that was previously mandated, but not funded. (Hasn’t fifty years of low rent housing proven to be ineffective in every city in the US?)
2. Give $1,500,000,000 to ACORN and other groups for the purpose of “neighborhood stabilization.” (That means that many neighborhoods inside the city are “stabilized” rather than allowed to "gentrify.”)
3. Allocate $2,000,000,000 to subsidize people who are delinquent on their mortgages. (In addition to the money that has already been allocated to allow dead beats to stay in their homes a few months longer.)
4. Hand over another $2,000,000,000 to "stabilize multifamily properties that are in default or foreclosure." (Assisting deadbeats with bigger bills.)

It’s going to be a long, hot summer.

One Chart = 1000 Words

Click on chart to enlarge it.

Dr. Sanity has posted this chart which explains relationships that I've been intending to cover for months. However, I must admit that the chart does the work of many words, even mine, for anyone who understands and remembers the Twentieth Century. If you would like a more thorough discussion, go here to read about the Left's inexplicable love affair with tyrants and their failed tyrannies.

The most frightening aspect is realizing how successful the Liberal Left has become in the freedom loving United States by carefully managing its message through academia, mass media, and the entertainment industry. Those who dare to oppose the agenda have immediately been branded as heartless misanthropes in a surreal inversion of reality, a la Alice in Wonderland.

Cap and Trade, Part IV

The San Francisco Examiner (Gasp! San Francisco?) has an excellent editorial about Waxman-Markey's HR 2454. Apparently, buried within its 946 pages are several unpopular surprises that Congressional Clowns want to pass by stealth such as a 3 year program of unemployment benefits. Three years? Are they admitting that the so called surge of Green Jobs is pure bunk? Has news of Spain's painful experience with green jobs penetrated the Beltway?

Michele Malkin has a video on her Blog showing Waxman admitting, "I certainly don't claim to know all the details in this bill." In other words, he is pushing a bill without knowing everything that's in it. That's either extreme incompetence or fraud.

Heritage Foundation has a neat summary of the real costs of HR 2454:
Analysis of the economic impact of Waxman-Markey projects that by 2035 the bill would:

* Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $9.6 trillion;
* Destroy 1,105,000 jobs on average, with peak years seeing unemployment rise by over 2,479,000 jobs;
* Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation;
* Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent;
* Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent;

* Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500; and
* Increase inflation-adjusted federal debt by 26 percent, or $29,150 additional federal debt per person, again after adjusting for inflation.

Go here to read the whole article.

Call Your Congressional Clowns!

Tell them to vote 'NO' on HR 2454, the so called Cap and Trade bill. It pretends to "clean the environment," but actually does nothing except clean out your bank account. Americans need to revolt against the unending growth of poorly conceived regulations, laws, and taxes to "solve" environmental issues.

California has led the rest of the nation in environmental regulations, yet in the latest American Lung Association report, 5 of the 10 most polluted cities in America are in California. Most of the thrust of the Cap and Trade crowd is eliminating gases, like the CO2 we all exhale with every breath, to fight climate change. Instead of global warming (Al Gore's fast track to increasing his bank account), we need to spend our time and energies working on particulate matter in the air. And it wouldn't hurt to pay more attention to the details of "scientific" reports. The most hyped ones are short on science, long on bombast and merely extend the reach of government into private lives.

If you've already called them, call again.

Coffin Nails

Barack Obama, like an earnest college sophomore during a midnight bull session, knows how to “solve” the world’s thorniest problems. However, unlike college sophomores, he has the power to make his ideas become national policy. For example, he has taken on the US automobile industry, first throwing money at it, and then firing executives while demanding a merger with his preferred foreign automaker. Now he’s invaded the engineering departments to dictate stringent emission and mileage standards to solve the “global warming (or climate change) problem,” which has never been proven to be a problem at all.

His decrees will probably put the final nails in the US auto industry coffin since he is outlawing their best selling cars during a recession, encouraging buyers to hold on to their beloved SUV’s as long as they can. These companies can’t redesign and retool without trashing designs and tools already paid for. So that’s an additional hit to their bottom line. New manufacturing costs, now estimated to be $1,600 per car, will also depress sales. With an industry that’s already reeling from legacy costs and union wages that foreign carmakers do not face, the new standards appear to be the death blow.

These standards will give new meaning to the term, “Culture of Death” since they will also put more citizens in coffins. Tiny light cars are just not as safe on the road despite seat belts and airbags as the heavier SUV’s and sedans

Is It Part of The DNA?

For the last 20 years, people have been pointing out hypocritical acts and attitudes of our contemporary eco freaks and tree huggers. Recently, one young lady in England even insisted on having surgical sterilization so she would never have any children to disturb the environment.

Today, Sigmund, Carl, and Alfred posted a long, interesting article enumerating instances of environmentalists evicting natives from their habitat in order to preserve the habitat since the discovery of Yosemite. Despite the fact the Miwoks had been living there for around 4,000 years, they were deemed detrimental to the preservation of the environment and cruelly eliminated in what became “The Yosemite Model.” And about sixty years later, Yosemite opened as a national park without any native residents. Read the whole piece for more specifics and examples.

Gore Refuses Global Warming Debate

For years, Gore has refused to debate global warming skeptics. He prefers to present his slide show without questions from a knowledgeable counterpart. This morning he testified in the House of Representatives that global warming was the most important issue Congress has ever faced. But apparently he didn't want anyone questioning his conclusions.

The Republicans had invited Lord Christopher Monkton, a former science advisor to Margeret Thatcher to speak on the same subject. However when Monkton landed at the airport from London, the Democrats informed him that his appearance has been cancelled. According to Climate Depot, his response was, “The House Democrats don't want Gore humiliated, so they slammed the door of the Capitol in my face. They are cowards.”

Cap and Trade No Matter What

As enough Democrats are backing away from proposed Cap and Trade legislation to force the 60-vote filibuster proof majority, Obama now threatens to achieve his desires through regulation instead. A week ago, the Environmental Protection Agency listed CO2 as a dangerous pollutant and therefore subject to their regulation. Voila! Whatever a bureaucracy wants, a bureaucracy gets, especially since energy is one of Obama’s primary interests.

Previously, Republicans had successfully changed Democrats’ minds about Cap and Trade by arguing it would “tax” every American household at least $3,128 per year. The legislation is still up for a vote, but at the moment passing it with 60 votes appears unlikely.
(You do remember that all initial estimates are way too low.)

It boggles the mind when you consider that this effort and cost is defended as a way of protecting us from Global Warming although there is growing evidence that no such threat exists.

Jeff Immelt Gets Testy at GE Board Meeting

Jeffrey Immelt took over at GE , parent company of NBC, CNBC, and MSNBC, in 2001 when Jack Welch retired. During his tenure, company stock has dropped nearly 80% and this March GE cut dividends to stockholders by 67%. Never the less, he received $19,591,000 compensation in 2007 and $5,717,469 in 2008. However no mass protests erupted accusing him of running the company into the ground while enriching himself. Instead, Obama acknowledged and rewarded his “expertise” by appointing him to his Economic Recovery Advisory Board.

Yesterday Immelt cut off the microphones of at least two people during the stockholders meeting when they questioned the obvious political slant at MSNBC and CNBC. Others at the meeting also expressed hostility to the one sided “news” from MSNBC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

And in case you were wondering why those television outlets are so excited about alternative energy, GE has invested heavily in the wind turbine industry but not in drilling or oil.

The Flat Earth Society of The 21st Century

Today, Earth Day, 2009, will feature thousands of calls to protect the earth from the scourge of Global Warming. The methods of protection proposed will generally be no more well researched than the “science” of man-made climate change.

For example, the proposal to grow soybeans for fuel to reduce foreign oil dependency would require plowing up and planting the entire state of Minnesota when we could just drill off shore and/or in the Alaskan wilderness for our own oil. The effectiveness of using power generated from wind farms is also questionable at best. Fervent environmentalists, like Sen. Diane Feinstein, forbid setting up windmills in the Mohave Desert because it must be kept pristine. So exactly where would you put them if they did work?

Cap and Trade legislation would probably reduce the entire population to poverty because it acts like a regressive tax on everything in the market. Europe has already tried this method of decreased carbon emissions and found that it only increased costs without reducing emissions.

Years from now, I can imagine school children laughing at our stupidity, just as we used to giggle over the people who believed the earth was flat. The perception that global warming proponents are more interested in control than in the environment will only increase as more discoveries are made.
