Today we pray that anyone with evil intentions for our country and its people would be brought to confusion and thus unable to execute their oppressive plans. That our prayer would be more than just words, each of us will also deny ourselves some legitimate pleasure, such as cream in our coffee, dessert, or eating meat.

Speaking of Holocaust Deniers. . .

Are we Americans just as guilty as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Can we kill around 1,370,000 innocent babies per year and not realize that our holocaust is far worse than the six million Jews annihilated by the Nazis?

Last January on the thirty-sixth anniversary of Roe v Wade, it was estimated that 50,000,000 abortions had been performed in the US. That means that we have decided to deny the right to life to the equivalent of the populations of:

Homeland Security???

Are the anarchists listed with the other local threats to the security of the US put out by the Department of Homeland Security? As I recall, that list featured Pro-lifers, gun owners, and veterans, but I don't specifically remember any anarchy group.

The anarchists are demonstrating in Pittsburgh now. There have been arrests, businesses have boarded up their windows, and police wear riot gear, complete with personal shields. I haven't heard any numbers, but anyone can see from the pictures that the number of demonstrators is minuscule compared to the September 12 event in Washington, DC.

The Tea Party protesters, who filled the streets and side streets from the Washington Monument to the Capitol, cleaned up the after themselves, required no police outfitted with riot gear, and no arrests were made. More than a million people gathered to protest intrusive government, but there were no "incidents."

Why are these the people Homeland Security is worried about?

Finally!

There was a voice of reason in the Theatre of The Absurd, a.k.a. the UN, when Benjamin Netanyahu spoke yesterday. He asked the audience, "Have you no shame?" regarding their placid nonchalance in accepting denial of the Holocaust of six million Jews.

It's reassuring when someone finally speaks the obvious truth in a world that appears to have gone crazy but no one dares to admit it. G_d bless the Prime Minister of Israel. He gave the speech that an American leader should have given.

American Unilateral Moves Are Bad

At least that's what President Obama said yesterday at the UN as he apologized to the whole world for America's sins, real and perceived.

I'm certain the Polish and Czechoslovakian attendees agreed with him, since he had just unilaterally voided an agreement America had made with them regarding missile defense. No wonder Poland has since ordered their troops to stand down in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Unemployment at 20%?

It is according to Paul Craig Roberts: If measured according to the methodology used when I was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, the unemployment rate today in the US is above 20%. Moreover, there is no obvious way of reducing it. There are no factories, with work forces temporarily laid off by high interest rates, waiting for a lower interest rate policy to call their workforces back into production.

If My People, Part II

I said, "My G_d, I am too ashamed and confounded to raise my face to you, O my G_d, for our wicked deeds are heaped up above our heads and our guilt reaches up to heaven. From the time of our fathers even to this day great has been our guilt, and for our wickd deeds we have been delivered up, we and our kings and our priests, to the will of the kings of foreign lands, to the sword, to captivity, to pillage and to disgrace, as is the case today." This is the second day for us to fast and pray for our country, asking God to forgive us personally and to forgive those "who know not what they do" wrong. And we can pray for the hearts of our leaders to be enlightened by the Holy Spirit and that the plans of evil men be confounded.

We can fast or add penance to our prayers by some small sacrifice such as giving up cream in our coffee, doing without dessert, or walking an extra 20 minutes.

I apologize for the light posting lately. Frankly I've been overwhelmed by the blatant hypocrisy and unconcealed corruption that I see in the USA now. I've never been so discouraged about my beloved country that for two centuries has stood as a shining light of hope to downtrodden people around the world.

There are so many stories to cover and that demand investigation that no one can take it all in, much less marshal the forces to fight them. I now believe that the battle we face is more than Tea Party Patriots can accomplish, no matter how earnest and committed they may be. America is involved in spiritual warfare for her survival and we must use spiritual weapons as well as common sense and individual acts of bravery if we are to get our country back.

Please join your fellow countrymen who are praying for an end to abortion and add your petitions to God for an end to corruption and evil wherever it may be: the federal government, state government, local governments, and in our own hearts.

Economic Forecast

This is the last paragraph from "All I Ever Needed to Know about Economics I Learned in Genesis," that I read this morning...
"Running the printing presses day and night to churn out dollar bills is not going to revitalize the economy. At is most basic level every economy is about dealing with the “dust from the ground” of which we are made, with the rocks and soil of this planet. We aren’t like God, able to create ex nihilo; we aren’t angels who can sustain ourselves on “information.” The real stuff that makes an economy hum is fished or grown or mined. It is taking the raw materials of this earth, “by the sweat of your face,” and making it edible, wearable, or otherwise usable to some other human being that forms the basis of any economy. When we see growth there, that is when we will be back."

It reminds me of the maxim I learned in the fifties that all wealth is created by farming, fishing, mining, and manufacturing. All other industries or vocations merely served those wealth generating ones. Then in the late eighties, Everyone began to say that this was the Information Age and we no longer depended on that old maxim. At the same time, we began transforming farming into massive Agri-business enterprises that relied on government handouts and practically eliminated the family farms, began allowing other countries to fish our coastal waters without protest, began denigrating mining as environmentally harmful, and began shipping our manufacturing overseas. Those Everyones ignored the fact that computers and information technology was a form of manufacturing although they quickly began shipping all those related services overseas also.

We were lulled into thinking that because bankers and investment advisors were wealthy themselves, that they were creating wealth for our country's economy. Then last September, as it collapsed, that empire showed itself to be a mere house of cards as our personal wealth collapsed with it.

I pray that we have the will to rebuild the US economic base.

It’s A Lot More Than Just Bias (Updated)

The way that the mass media and the Obama administration have handled these recent ACORN videotapes reveals much more than mere hypocrisy. Suddenly we see people who care NOTHING about the white slave trade, prostitution, tax evasion, or dishonest loan applications. It’s bad enough to know that ACORN doesn’t care, but to realize that neither the administration nor the mass media care is truly chilling.

At first, most news outlets ignored the tapes even after the US Census broke off ties with ACORN. That alone should have been a bombshell story calling for even more investigation and more stories about its impact. But, only those who watch FOX News, listen to Glenn Beck, or get their information from the Internet even knew about it. When questioned a few days later, Charles Gibson, head of ABC News claimed to know nothing about the scandal despite the fact that he is the head of the News Department and it’s his business to know what’s going on, not to mention that one of his reporters, Jake Tapper, had posted a story about it on his blog.

After that gaffe, stories began to appear on television and print, but the emphasis repeatedly was about Republicans trying to persecute ACORN.

It terrifies any just/compassionate/sane person to think that our “news” media see things only in terms of political fights and they’re only going to pay attention when it helps “their” side. (Read Media Malpractice for additional instances.) Have they no compassion about the possibility of young girls being used as sex slaves? Does the fact that an organization that receives federal money, i.e., from our pocketbooks, encourages clients to avoid taxes and shows them how to do it? Is no one investigating if such things have really happened in the past, instead of just during a sting operation with undercover video? Are we going to just sit there and wink at gross corruption in our system?

And let’s not even consider Congress investigating ACORN. Far too many of them owe ACORN favors, beside the fact that such investigations seldom accomplish anything worthwhile.

Addendum: ACORN has decided to call for an "independent" investigation of itself. That sounds so contrite until you look at the people who will conduct the investigation such as John Podesta, Center for American Progress (the group that just hired Van Jones, the self avowed Communist who had been a czar) and Andrew Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union. Besides, no investigation is independent when the organization gets to name its preferred investigators.

Also, someone needs to do a lot of investigation of all of Obama's ties with ACORN before too many papers are shredded and too many speeches removed from the Internet. Where are true patriots who can and will do this job for our country?

Please Remind The Congressional Clowns

Today is Constitution Day, the two hundred and twenty second anniversary of the signing of our Constitution. It is the oldest and most venerated Constitution in the world. William Gladstone, then Prime Minister of England, pronounced it "the most wonderful work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of man."

The Congressional Clowns who have ignored it or claim that it "grows" with the passing years, do so at their peril -- and at ours. Whatever the changing mores, fashions, and technologies in our country, this Constitution deals with human nature which does not change. It is worthy of respect.

There is nothing in the Constitution that would justify the federal government taking over banks, automobile companies, choices of light bulbs, the health care industry, insurance companies, or instituting a cap and trade system, among other things. Our freedom and way of life will perish if we do not return to the Constitution.

Delicious Irony

The Baltimore attorney who has repeatedly threatened to sue the young people who made the videos, the Big Government web site that assisted, and Fox News that aired the videos will be singing a different tune. It seems that ACORN can not legally operate in the state of Maryland, so everything they've been doing is illegal. So they are liable to prosecution themselves.

More ACORN Irony

ACORN is registered with the IRS as a 501-3c charity, therefore, they are supposed to lose that status if they engage in or encourage others to engage in any illegal activity. Read more about it at Sweetness and Light.

Hmmmmmm. How many times and in how many states have they been prosecuted for voter fraud or fraudulent registration before the recent string of videos revealing criminal offenses by officers?

On the other hand, at least some Republicans are demanding that the IRS sever ties with ACORN and quit allowing them to assist clients with their taxes. After watching the videos that have been released thus far, citizens can't help but wonder whether they helped them fill out the forms correctly or helped them evade taxes.

2. To get some idea of the public relations work the US media has performed for liberal causes during the last 60 years, read Media Malpractice: Tom Brokaw's World Implodes in The American Spectator. From Barry Goldwater to John Edwards to ACORN, it reveals the depth of the deception and misinformation the mass media has inflicted on unknowing Americans. In the fifties and sixties, only those few who read National Review knew what was really happening, but now the Internet and talk radio daily bring more truth to light, effectively curtailing their influence.

3. To get a new understanding of the big picture, read about George Soros' nefarious role in our national decline. He prefers to stay in the background, but his power is global. Changing the US is his crowning achievement.

Can You Hear Us Now?

This sign was seen on State highway 15-501 at the Lamm's Grove intersection near Durham, NC.  

None of us know what the current administration and the Congressional Clowns learned from the 9-12 protests in Washington, DC and in hometown rallies all across the land.
But the basic message was:
1. Get rid of the corruption in the White House, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and all organizations feeding at the public trough like ACORN
2. Don't spend another dime
3. Read and understand the bills before voting on them
4. No sweeping health care bills -- We only need to sweep up the trash, not burn the house down and rebuild

It's not Republican versus Democrat; it's American Patriots versus those who merely want to manipulate the system for their own advantage. The patriots outnumber the users, but the manipulators currently hold the levers of power.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are inalienable rights given to us by God. We must not let them slip through our fingers.

Protest Picture from Atlanta


This picture, courtesy of Nick O'Connor, was taken at a demonstration in an Atlanta suburb. It graphically portrays the intentions of some of the people crafting the healthcare reform bill who are more concerned about saving money than saving lives.

For example, a grandmother in my ocular melanoma support group discovered the eye cancer when she was 45. At age 67, metastasis showed up in her liver and later in her peritoneum. Since then she has had surgery, chemo, and immuno-emobilizations. Now at 73, she wrote,
"Just so you know, I have been fighting this thing for 6 1/2 years, after mets to my liver. I feel fine, lead a full life, enjoy everything, etc. The fighting part has not been a picnic, but it has not been that bad either."
Does some bureaucrat sitting at a desk in DC have the right to say those years were not worth the battle? That this woman did not contribute to medical science discoveries, to her family, to society at large? Do we really want to substitute the "wisdom" of government employees for God?

Listen to The Silence

The silence of the mass media about the murder of a prolife activist in Michigan is a dramatic contrast to the keening over the murder of Dr. Tiller, an abortionist. As of today there have been 19 stories about James Pouillion who was shot as he stood in front of a high school holding a pro life sign, while there were at least 643 different stories about Tiller in the mass media.

When Tiller was killed, every Pro Life organization leader in the United States, Catholic Bishops, and Protestant pastors immediately condemned the murder and offered prayers for Tiller and his family. So far, I have heard of no one who has condemned Pouillion's killer.

Neither have there been blanket accusations about all abortion supporters being budding terrorists. However all prolife supporters are still on the Homeland Security Watch list for terrorism. And no one has called for a ban on private ownership of guns because Pouillion was murdered with a gun.

No wonder most mass media outlets are going broke. They have become public relations offices, not news organizations.

An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week, which I quote:

"If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers per month.

The firearm death rate in Washington , DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period. That means you are about 25 percent more likely to be shot and killed in the US capital, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US , than you are in Iraq"

These time lapse crowd shots show the mass of people who paid their own way to go to Washington to express their beliefs. Too bad Obama and most Democrat Clowns got the h**l out of Dodge before they arrived.

Maryland Will Prosecute Whistle Blowers?

By now, practically everyone has seen or heard about the videos of the young people posing as a pimp and a prostitute at an ACORN office. During the interview, they were given advice on how to skirt detection in their lawless endeavors which included running a bordello with under-age girls from San Salvador. After airing on Fox News and the Internet, ACORN hastily fired the two advisers.

But you may not have heard that Baltimore City's State Attorney may use Maryland's wiretap laws to prosecute the two who made the video and brought it to Glenn Beck. Not surprisingly, the prosecutor, Patricia Jessamy, used to work for ACORN and has defended them publicly in the past. Also, it was Maryland state attorneys who charged Linda Tripp of illegal wiretapping in the Lewinsky/Clinton affair. Go to Sweetness and Light to get a more complete story.

Some newspapers have estimated the crowd there today as "tens of thousands," but the DC park police guessed at least 1,200,000 or 120 of those tens of thousands. Ca$h for Clunkers

According to the Council of Economic Advisors, the Cash for Clunkers program cost the American taxpayer $8,700 for each additional automobile sale. By analyzing car sales, they concluded that only an additional 330,000 cars were sold than would have been expected without the program, hardly a bonanza for either the economy or the auto dealers who filled out reams of paperwork for the priviledge of waiting for the government to make good on its promises. The Line in The Sand

The simple way to cut through the fog of deception that passes for public discourse is to insist that our Congressional Clowns pass a health care bill that applies to all citizens of the United States. Any bill that exempts them but applies to the rest of country is a form of tyranny. Don't let your Congressional Clown get away with it.

What Is The Rush?

Obama intended to ram his plans for our health care through by the end of July and he certainly expects to do it before the end of the year. Yet, none of it takes effect until 2013 -- the year he plans to be inaugurated for his second term of office.

Could it be that he knows how bad the bill is? Is this a way of disguising his lies about it until after the November elections of 2012? Does he understand that few will vote for him of their own free will AFTER living under his health care for just a year or two? Do his actions display the kind of moral courage that we need in the person who leads our country?

The Wrong Person Apologized

As far as I am concerned, Joe Wilson's involuntary outburst at just one of the blatant lies Obama told last night is perfectly understandable. Obama himself needs to apologize to all the citizens and Congressional clowns who heard his speech last night. No one should lie, least of all the president.

Folks, nothing has changed. The whole health care push is about increasing power of the government over the people, not about helping us achieve more health care at a cheaper price.

Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less

There are only 11 days left to tell the Minerals Management Service what you believe about using the resources that we already have. This agency within the Department of the Interior, chooses when and where we can drill for American energy through a public process called "Notice and Comment." They will decide whether we can drill offshore during the years 2010-2015. It will be five years before they consider drilling again.

Using our own resources will:
1. Create millions of new high-paying American jobs
2. Promote economic security with independence from OPEC
3. Decrease gasoline, heating oil, and natural gas prices
4. Reduce the environmental impact of natural oil seeps
5. Develop oil reserves that are over three times larger than Saudi Arabia’s reserves
6. Reduce federal, state, and local budget deficits
7. Reduce risk of environmental damage from foreign tanker spills
8. Stop financing Hugo Chavez and Saudi Kings
9. Fund environmental preservation efforts with increased drilling royalties
10. Finance research and development in alternative energy

Who Is Dumb and Uneducated?

Apparently the current group of Progressives/Liberals/Democrats who are running our country have learned nothing from the history of the last 100 years, such as the fact that increased government control over citizen’s lives always leads to destruction of both the governed and the governors.

Lenin, Stalin, and Trotsky appeared to have a compassionate desire to help the Russian peasants in the early Twentieth Century. They were dismayed when the peasants refused their help in destroying the rulers and the institutions that had “oppressed” them. So they killed dissidents to help the people. The final count of deaths by Communist regimes according to Wikipedia is around:
• 65 million in the People's Republic of China
• 20 million in the Soviet Union[3]
• 2 million in Cambodia
• 2 million in North Korea
• 1.7 million in Africa
• 1.5 million in Afghanistan
• 1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe
• 1 million in Vietnam[4]
• 150,000 in Latin America
• 10,000 deaths "resulting from actions of the international communist movement and communist parties not in power."

During the last 100 years, none of these countries has become wealthy or made innovative scientific discoveries. They have contributed little to world except fear, poverty, and repression.

Germany and Italy developed their national socialistic parties later. In Nazi Germany, the death toll for Jews is always listed as 6,000,000, but many other deaths of Catholics, homosexuals, gypsies, and resistors also came as a result of this oppressive government.

In Europe, many Western countries adopted various forms of socialism or increased government control of various elements of society, especially since the end of World War II. Yet, in the last ten years, each one of those countries have begun moving away from government control and toward increased freedom. They’ve “been there and done that” and they don’t particularly like it. Almost every day, new complaints emerge from these countries regarding the poor quality of health care.

In contrast, the Twentieth Century was frequently called The American Century because we have led the world in innovative solutions to age old problems, new business ventures, medical advances, and increased personal wealth.

In spite of our freedoms and the success they have allowed, the US government has instituted or taken over the Post Office, Social Security, Veterans Hospitals, Medicare, Medicaid, a War on Poverty, a portion of the banking industry, and most of the automobile industry. Each institution or takeover by the federal government has necessarily increased its power over individual citizens, for our own good, of course. None of these enterprises has done well despite good intentions and lavish infusions of taxpayer money. In fact, they are all deeply in debt and there is probably no way, they can make good their promises, even if we’re all taxed at 100% of our income. The nation is so far in debt that no one will even buy our treasury bonds, so the feds are just printing more money. At the rate we’re going now, we’ll be a banana republic in no time flat.

And yet the Progressives/Liberals/Democrats now insist that the federal government NEEDS to take over our health care. Somehow, they think that this time it will be different. Somehow, when THESE people run our lives, they’ll do it better than the Russians, Chinese, Europeans, and all of the other despots throughout human history.
I hope that true patriots will work to nullify their efforts and keep us a free country. We must return to Constitutional government if we are to retain our way of life.

False Choices

There are two fallacies in the debate over proposals currently on the table about health care reform. These fallacies keep the public from debating or even understanding the issues involved. For a republic to work, the voters need to be involved and educated, not just involved at high decibel rates.

1. The major problem with current discussions is that reform is proposed as an all or nothing deal, i.e., either adopt the administration approved changes or nothing.

2. The second problem is related in that people tend to see health care in sentimental terms like "we have to do this if we care for people, especially poor people and anyone who opposed must prefer rich doctors or evil insurance companies to my poor neighbor."

There are many ways to change our health care system without going the route of involving the government more than it is already. The government has run the Post Office, Social Security, and Medicare long enough to prove to all observers that it doesn't run things well. Not only have they created untold headaches because of the bureaucratic mazes they devise for unwary citizens, they're all going broke. Our health care is way too important to give them any more control over it. Let's look at all the possibilities of reform that target specific issues, not just give up and hand it over to Washington.

Although proponents of the Democrat version of health care reform pose as great humanitarians, they really do not have the welfare of the citizens foremost in their minds when voting of health care reform. If they were truly improving anything, they'd make certain that they were included in the program and not have one layer of benefits for Congressional Clowns and another layer for the rest of us. Any reform that is passed and signed into law must apply equally to all citizens! Anything less is tyranny.

"When you break the big laws, you do not get freedom; you do not even get anarchy. You get the small laws."

And in today's America there are so many small laws that we all engage in criminal activity without even knowing it. As big government grows ever bigger, citizens are burdened with new little laws each time the President signs a bill. The Congressional Clowns may pass a 1,000+ page bill, but when the bureaucrats finish writing up the regulations, it grows much longer, becomes much more complex, and gains innumerable unintended consequences.

Little laws make everyone think first of our tax law that is so Byzantine even the IRS does not understand it, or in Geithner's case, follow it. If you were to call the nearest IRS office to ask a specific question about a specific tax situation, then follow the IRS advice on that same tax situation, you still could be considered guilty if audited by IRS personnel who disagreed with the IRS person who gave you the advice. Not only is the tax code tens of thousands of pages long already, but more pages of regulations are added each year.

Sales tax regulations sound easy, but twenty states follow recommendations of the Steamlined Sales Tax Project or SSTP. The SSTP is currently considering taxing Wheaties, Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and Rice Crispies as candy, although Cookie Crunch will remain a cereal. Their definition of candy is a substance with sugar in it, but no flour. Wheaties, for example, contains wheat flakes, not flour. According to a comment on American's for Tax Reform article about SSTP, Kellogg's Raisin Bran is considered candy, but Post Raisin Bran is a cereal. Candies, in case you were wondering, can be taxed at higher rates than foods in many states with sales taxes.

Since the regulations of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act were approved this spring, federal agents now have the authority to raid Saturday morning garage sales and jail the offending homeowner in a campaign called Resale Roundup. In addition to the draconian rules about plastic and lead products, the new law makes it a crime to resell any item that has been recalled by its manufacturer. Since hundreds of products might be recalled each year, for various reasons, it's impossible for homeowners to keep up with all of them. As a result, many resale shops have been forced out of business, numerous books taken off library shelves, and the hosts at garage sales face the possibility of jail. However, the really bad news is that Obama has asked for a 11.4% increase in CPSI funding, so more inspectors can be hired next year. Then they can do more raids on yard sales, Craig's List, and Ebay.

And, this round up of stupidity only hints at the growing government intrusion into our private lives.

Obviously, God is not a bureaucrat. He only has ten laws for a peaceful society. And they are so simple a ten year-old can easily memorize them.

Extended Labor Day Holiday

Well, lots of parents are considering it an extended holiday now that Obama announced his plans to speak to all public school attendees September 8. I hear that many people are expecting their children to be sick that day after all the revelry over unions in the US or else they'll have trouble getting back into town from the holiday trip. Too bad The Won's captive audience may be smaller than expected.

If you wonder what all the hoopla is about, read Michelle's Malkin's column today. Even though this speech may be innocuous, there is real reason for concern, especially if this administration believes that this first foray into indoctrination of children is successful.

Yet Another Petition for You

Here is another opportunity to make use of your *First Amendment right to "petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Go to Your Energy Opinion to sign a letter to an agency within the Department of Energy. This agency, Minerals Management Services, will accept public comments until September 21, then they will decide when, where, and if we can drill for American oil between 2010 and 2015. This decision will be our last chance to use our own natural resources until 2015. Otherwise, we will continue to be held captive by despotic regimes of other oil producing countries and unproven pie-in-the-sky schemes of so called "green" energy companies.

Once you've signed the letter, please forward this information to everyone who shares your views about the folly of ignoring our own resources and ask them to sign also. If we can flood the system with protests, maybe we can have some effect on their decision. Who knows what could happen to the price of oil between now and 2015?

Good Citizen Alert on The CIA

You no doubt have heard that former vice president Dick Cheney has spoken forcefully about the political machinations behind the new, third investigation of the CIA which Eric Holder just announced. The DOJ seems to be determined to make criminals out of those people who followed orders from their superiors, to make criminals out of the lawyers who studied case law to determine what would be legal, and most important, to make criminals out of the superiors, members of the Bush administration. Other national security analysts, as well as those who still have common sense, agree with his assessment of its dangerous veniality.

To show your support of those targets of the witch hunt and your disgust with a Department of Justice that criminalizes defenders of America while exonerating Black Panthers who openly intimidated voters, please sign the petition, I Will Not Convict. It states the if you are on a jury at a trial for members of the CIA, you will refuse to convict. Perhaps if enough people sign it, we can limit the scope of the CIA investigation. It's time for us to at least rain on their parade.

PS: Also please sign the Free Our Health Care Now petition if you haven't done so already. They now have 1,185,993 signatures. Help make it the biggest petition ever before they deliver it to all Congressional Clowns on September 9.

A Day of Remembrance

There are only 10 shopping days left to buy a flag before September 11 if you don't already have one. Then, please show your colors all day on September 11 just like we all did for months after September 11, 2001.

Remember when all flag manufacturers were out of flags across the USA and you had to put your name on a long waiting list to get a large, sewn one? Well, they are readily available now, and I challenge each reader to get a flag or get it out of the attic and fly it for our troops, our neighbors, our children, and our enemies. Let's remind ourselves and the rest of the world that we stand for individual freedom and responsibility. We will not be enslaved and we will continue to help other countries escape slavery because "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

We can provide no better service to our country at this time.

*Rule One Alert!

Not only while Obama and the Congressional Clowns are on vacation, but in the middle of wall to wall coverage of the Kennedy funeral, word about a revised bill giving the president authority to shut down the public's access to the Internet emerged. And surprise, surprise, no one is available for explanations or comments. And the public relations experts believe that between August 28 and September 8, everyone will forget about the bombshell.

I think they're wrong.

Declan McCullough of CNET lifts the veil on S.773, the bill from Jay Rockefeller's office that grants the President authority to shut down all private access to the Internet during an emergency. No definition of emergency is given and few parameters for its execution are listed. It sounds like one more assault on our privacy and our freedom. Welcome your senators back to the office by having a strongly worded letter waiting for them when they return to the office in September. Then we'll start on emails and phone calls.

*Rule One refers to methods that media personnel use to manipulate public reaction to news.

Democrat Astro Turf

Kyle-Anne Shiver details some thuggery of recent months that tries to pass for political activism in today's column at American Thinker. No wonder that *Democrats immediately accuse the Republicans of astro turfing the town hall meetings and tea parties. They have to recruit attendees (see jobs listings at places like Craig's list), bus the demonstrators to selected locations (note descriptions of bystanders at said meetings), and then pay people (or at least furnish tee shirts, signs, and more) to demonstrate. And according to Rush Limbaugh, they even recruited union members to visibly mourn along the route and at the library for Ted Kennedy's memorial yesterday.

The Clowns just can't quite comprehend large numbers of people making their own signs, doing their own research, and paying their own way to attend political demonstrations without coercion or visible rewards. They can't imagine the intense love for country and the constitution that most Americans have, because all they care about is power. To them patriotism is perfunctory at best.

*Many Republicans think the same things about patriotic demonstrators, but since the media tends to ignore them, no one knows their assessment.

Good News!

On September 3, the chaplain and ten Episcopal nuns of the Society of All Saints’ Sisters of the Poor in Maryland will be received into the Catholic Church. How fitting that they chose the feast day of St. Gregory the Great for the occasion. Pope Gregory first attempted to go to Britain himself in order to convert the pagan Angles to Christianity. He sent Augustine (now known as St. Augustine of Canterbury) there on an evangelistic mission after he was not allowed to go himself. All Christians of Anglo-Saxon descent owe him a debt of gratitude.

Their chaplain, Fr. Warren Tanghe is the former rector of Church of Our Saviour in Atlanta where my two younger children and I attended. He graciously encouraged me to become a Catholic when I talked with him about my dissatisfaction with the Episcopal Church back in 1999. I've been delighted with my decision and now I am delighted that he has joined me and other ex-parishioners on this side of the Tiber.

Insuring Early Death

In today's Wall St. Journal, Betsy McCaughey reveals chilling information about Dr. Exekiel Emmanuel, Rahm's brother.
1. Currently he is both health-policy adviser at the Office of Management and Budget and a member of the Federal Council on Comparative Effectiveness Research. Therefore he plays a major role in shaping Obamacare.
2. He believes that health care should serve society's needs, whatever that is, not the patients' needs.
3. He proposes changing medical ethics to achieve savings in health care costs and admits that Obama's ideas about improved record keeping and preventative medicine are practically worthless.
4. Our big problem, according to medical ethicist Emmanuel, is relying on the Hippocratic Oath too much.
5. He wants the majority of health care dollars to serve the people from around age 10 to age 50, with peak expenditures between 20 and 40. Infants would receive the least amount of help and from 50 on, there would be a precipitous decline in availability of medical assistance.

His idea is to spend the most health care dollars for the age group that has the least need for medical care, while almost insuring early death for the weakest among us -- the babies and older people.

Of course such a program would result in great savings in medical expenses, but it's barbaric. No wonder Congressional Clowns refuse to apply the "reform" to themselves and their own families.

No Rest for The Weary, III

Several political junkies believe the Democrats and the bureaucrats beholden to them are exaggerating the dangers from H1N1 in order to create a crisis that will frighten people into accepting Obama's health care "reform" more readily. They also foresee an attempt to use public sentiment over unfortunate death of Sen. Ted Kennedy to persuade
Congressional Clowns to pass a bill that Kennedy would have been proud of.

Of course, outsiders have no idea what's going on behind closed doors in the back halls of Washington, DC, but do not believe for one minute that this administration and other progressives have given up on the plan for the federal government to insert itself even more completely into our health care system.

And do not succumb to the siren song that the proponents of Obamacare care for the little people. Nothing in any of the bills or plans made known so far have helpful solutions for the people. Instead they are filled with stringent, needless regulations and more mandates that will ultimately kill the health care we all enjoy now -- even those of us without insurance. The health care "reform" being considered now is all about control, not compassion.

The problems we have now with insurance and affordability are the direct result of bumbling Congressional interference and giving them more latitude is going to make it worse, not better. Get revved up the coming battles when Congressional
Clowns return to Washington by reviewing all the posts on socialized medicine.

The Inside Scoop

The following is an unedited email from a friend in Montana who attended the Obama "Town Hall" in Bozeman. I find it informative and much more revealing than anything I've seen in the mass media. If you agree, please send it on.

Hello All,

By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to Montana last Friday. However, there are many things that the major news has not covered. I feel that since Joe and I live here and we were at the airport on Friday I should share some facts with you. Whatever you decide to do with the information is up to you. If you chose to share this email with others I do ask that you DELETE my email address before you forward this on.

On Wednesday, August 5th it was announced locally that the President would be coming here. There are many groups here that are against his healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking and deciding on what they were going to do. The White House would not release ANY details other than the date.

On about Tuesday Joe found out that they would be holding the “Town Hall” at the airport. (This is only because Joe knows EVERYONE at the airport).

Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny town) in a very remote location. Nothing is around there. They chose to use a hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not pick a more remote location, and you can not get to it easily. It is totally secluded from the public.

FYI: We have many areas in Belgrade and Bozeman which could have held a large amount of folks with sufficient parking. (gymnasiums/auditoriums). All of which have chairs and tables, and would not have to be SHIPPED IN!! $$$$$

During the week, cargo by the TONS was being shipped in constantly. Airport employees could not believe how it just kept coming. Though it was our President coming several expressed how excessive it was, especially during a recession. $$$$$

Late Tuesday/early Wednesday the 12th, they said that tickets would be handed out on Thursday 9am at two locations and the president would be arriving around 12:30 Friday.

Thursday morning about 600 tickets were passed out. However, 1500 were printed at a Local printing shop per White House request. Hmmmm……900 tickets just DISAPPEARED.

This same morning someone called into the radio from the local UPS branch and said that THOUSANDS of Dollars of Lobster were shipped in for Obama. Montana has some of the best beef in the nation!!! And it would have been really wonderful to help out the local economy. Anyone heard of the Recession?? Just think…with all of the traveling the White House is doing. $$$$$ One can only imagine what else we are paying for.

On Friday Joe and I got out to the airport about 10:45am. The groups that wanted to protest Obama’s spending and healthcare had gotten a permit to protest and that area was roped off. But that was not to be. A large bus carrying SEIU (Service Employees International Union) members drove up onto the area (illegal)and unloaded right there.(SURPRISE, SURPRISE) It was quite a commotion and there were specifically 2 SEIU men trying to make trouble and start a fight. Police did get involved and arrested the one man but they said they did not have the manpower to remove the SEIU crowd. (LET'S SEE, THE PRESIDENT IS IN TOWN BUT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH POLICE MANPOWER TO CONTROL A BUS LOAD OF PROTESTORS ?)

The SEIU crowd was very organized and young. About 99% were under the age of 30 and they were not locals! They had bullhorns (TO DROWN OUT THE OPPOSITION) and PROFESSIONALLY made signs. (THE COMMUNITY ORGANIZER-IN-CHIEF KNOWN HOW TO PROTEST.)Some even wore preprinted T-shirts. Oh, and Planned Parenthood folks were with them…..professing abortion rights with their T-shirts and preprinted signs. (BTW, all these folks did have a permit to protest in ANOTHER area)

Those against healthcare/spending moved away from the SEIU crowd to avoid confrontation. They were orderly and respectful. Even though SEIU kept coming over and walking through, continuing to be very intimidating and aggressive at the direction of the one SEIU man.

So we had Montana folks from ALL OVER the state with their homemade signs and their DOGS with homemade signs. We had cowboys, nurses, doctors you name it. There was even a guy from Texas who had been driving through. He found out about the occasion, went to the store, made a sign, and came to protest.

If you are wondering about the press…..Well, all of the major networks were over by that remote hangar I mentioned. They were conveniently parked on the other side of the buildings FAR away. None of these crowds were even visible to them. I have my doubts that they knew anything about the crowds.

We did have some local news media around us from this state and Idaho.

Speaking of the local media…they were invited. However, all questions were to be turned into the White House in advance of the event. Wouldn’t want anyone to have to think off the top of their head.

It was very obvious that it was meant to be totally controlled by the White House. Everything was orchestrated down to the last detail to make it appear that Montana is just crazy for Obama and government healthcare.

Even those people that talked about their insurance woes……..the White House called our local HRDC (Human Resource and Development Committee) and asked for names. Then the White House asked those folks to come.

Smoke and mirrors…EVERYTHING was staged!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very dismayed about what I learned about our current White House. The amount of control and manipulation was unbelievable. I felt I was not living in the United States of America, more like the USSR!! I was physically nauseous. Joe and I have been around when Presidents or Heads of State visit. It has NEVER been like this. I am truly very frightened for our country. America needs your prayers and your voices. If you care about our country please get involved. Know the issues. And let Congress hear your voices again and again!! If they are willing to put forth so much effort to BULLY a small town one can only imagine what is going on in Washington DC. Scary!!

Food Costs Going Up?

I don't ever remember paying more than $1.00 per avocado in my many years of buying groceries. But this week, the lowest price I've found is $1.12, with much higher prices at several grocery chains. According to some prognosticators, this may be a portent for the near future all over the US.

But it's not just avocados. Sugar, sorghum, corn, and wheat crops have been bad due to drought conditions or bad weather in several states, especially *California and Texas, which will cause both price increases and shortages in those commodities and everything that either eats them or is made from them. There may be a temporary decrease in the price of beef as ranchers sell off their herds early, but expect higher prices down the road.

Consider buying and storing while it's relatively easy and cheap.

*Remember that at least part of the problem in California lies with the EPA which is redirecting the resevoir water to save the smelts instead of saving the crops for the people.

Deficit Estimate and Rule One

Friday evening, the Obama administration released the news bomb that its deficit estimate had increased from $7,000,000,000,000 to $9,000,000,000,000. Of course, they hoped that no one would notice since it was done just before the weekend and hoped that the mass media would consider it old news by Monday and generally ignore it. Since it is an estimate by the administration for ten years, one almost knows that it's a lowball; the reality will probably be much worse.

Obama Believes in Offshore Oil Drilling

The only trouble is, he wants it for Brazil, not the US, and he's putting our money where his mouth is to the tune of $2,000,000,000 (and possibly even more in the future) in US loans. Too bad he didn't get our whole message. We had said, "Drill here. Drill now," but he only heard the drill now part. So he is paying Brazilians to do the very thing he refuses to allow our own businesses to do. Hot Air first had the news a couple of days ago.

Strangely enough, last Friday, George Soros positioned himself to benefit from Brazil's Petrobras dividends days before the announcement of US aid was made public, causing an increase in the value of said dividends. Of course, it's mere coincidence. . .

Green Jobs Czar vs Glenn Beck

Van Jones, a black activist who has been appointed Obama’s Green Jobs Czar, gained his political experience as a radical environmentalist. He bragged in a 2005 interview that he was using environmentalism to fight for racial and class justice. He was so angered by the Rodney King riots of 1992 that he became a communist. Since then he has worked with /or founded a number of radical groups:
• STORM – or Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, primarily black group advocating “third world Marxism”
• The Apollo Alliance – a coalition of labor, business, community leaders, and environmental groups favoring a “green” revolution
• Green for All – an activist environmental organization with mostly black membership
• Colors of Change – an activist group organized to "strengthen Black America's political voice"

Colors of Change is the group that persuaded many advertisers to withdraw their ads from Glenn Beck’s popular television show on Fox News. The show has done several segments recently that were critical of both President Obama and Van Jones.

Pajamas Media has a video about Obama's advertising brand that is well worth watching. Not many people have mentioned it, but Obama has frequently replaced the presidential seal (reserved for only 43 people in our history) with the signature O emblem from his campaign. This has troubling implications: Obama is more important than the office, for one. Another, more sinister inference would be the dissolution of the office of president and the ascendency of The One. Chuck Norris has revealed another secret about ObamaCare -- it's really Ezekiel Emanuel Care. Norris correlates the administration's messages and activities with Emanuel's book, Health Care, Guaranteed. The rush to pass the legislation, the dearth of details, the insistence on remaking health care rather than correcting a few loose ends, the death panels, ending Medicare, and all the other moves to date come straight from the Emanuel playbook. Ezekiel Emanuel, Obama's chief medical advisor, knows how to "play the Chicago way" just like his brother, Rahm. He's been labeled both the Health Czar and the Death Czar.

Still No Rest for The Weary

Both Drudge and the Wall Street Journal recently suggested that Obama and his supporters were running up the white flag on health care "reform." But, please do not rest on your laurels.

They're probably just trying to tone down the town hall meetings to give their loyal Congressional Clowns a break from the bad publicity.
1. Obama has *lied repeatedly when speaking in favor of the "reform," so we now know that we can not trust him to stand by his word.
2. It does not matter whether the government provides the health insurance or merely increases its control and regulations, the effect will be the same on the people.
3. They have already planned to use *reconciliation to pass health care reform if they do not have a filibuster proof (60 votes) margin.
4. The Progressives in US government have been lusting for socialized medicine for decades. Now, at last they have it within their grasp and they're not about to just give up. If absolutely necessary, they'll just tuck elements of their version of "reform" into other bills. For example, the "death panels" and other elements of increased health care control are already in the "stimulus" bill. I wrote about that in February.

So keep up the protests. Keeping telling your Clowns how much you detest every proposal so far. And, if you're not yet a senior citizen, get your mother and father to protest with you. Dick Morris thinks that's the only group with enough clout to slow down the Democrats.


*For example: You can keep your insurance. You can stay with your doctor. More preventive care will cut costs. All proposed legislation will be posted on the Internet for three days before voting and signing. I will not have any ex-lobbyists in my administration. My administration will be transparent.

Is The Sky Falling?

According to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, it is. Speaking to the Global Economic Forum in Incheon, North Korea conference last week, he said, “We have just four months. Four months to secure the future of our planet.”

Sounding even more panicky than Al Gore, he spoke of both droughts and floods occurring because of Global Warming, causing food shortages, malnutrition, social unrest, and death. Fortunately, he believes there is a solution.

The simple solution for avoiding total catastrophe is for wealthy nations to allocate new money for environmental concerns to the UN at the Copenhagen Conference in December, approximately four months from now.

On the other hand, lots and lots of money has already funded our EPA which, in turn, is creating its own drought in the San Joaquin Valley. Crops and trees wither in the sun, farmers abandon their land, crop workers have no crops to maintain or pick, and soon grocery prices will rise as America loses the produce we’ve come to depend on.

The media frequently repeats the state officials’ claim California has experienced a three-year drought, although the state’s Department of Water Resources reports that state reservoirs have received 80 to 95% of the yearly rain.

Instead of allotting water from the reservoirs to the farms to protect food for human beings, the Environmental Protection Agency is protecting a three-inch smelt. Thus, the water is diverted to San Francisco bay and out to the Pacific Ocean. This spring, the official explanation changed to protecting whales because defending smelts makes for bad publicity.

And so in a state with reservoir capacity to irrigate 4,000,000 acres, a dust bowl is developing and one town now suffers from 40% unemployment and long bread lines.

But if we just sent more money to Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, and maybe, a few extra dollars to the EPA, this problem would be solved.

On the other hand, when it comes to global warming, I’ve always wondered why everyone was so excited. If indeed, the summers in Atlanta ever get so hot that Yankees retire in Pennsylvania, we’d all just move North a couple of hundred miles. The US might lose Florida, but think of all the acreage in the Northwest Territories now open to farming. I’m sure our Canadian cousins would welcome us.

Pelosi's Signal

Princess Pelosi signaled "her" crowd a couple of weeks ago that Health Care "Reform" protesters were seen carrying swastikas at town hall meetings. While the conservative masses scratched their heads in disbelief because the few swastikas seen had lines drawn through them indicating "no", the presstitutes and the politicians knew which plays were coming up.

Since then the people who are protesting more government control, i.e. socialism, have repeatedly been labeled as Nazi's (the National Socialist party headed by Hitler). Posters of Obama with a Hitler moustache have appeared on the scene, giving Obama supporters more ammunition for disparaging any distaste for Obamacare. And surprise, surprise, a few days after Rep. David Scott's *disastrous town hall meeting hit the national news, a black swastika was painted on a sign in front of his office. And, since both Scott and Obama are black, Nazi symbols and allusions have morphed into racist allusions.

Kyle Ann Shriver reminds us this morning that such activity is a favorite trick from Saul Alinksy's playbook. Her article quotes from a biography of Alinsky:
"...in the spring of 1972, at Tulane University...students asked Alinsky to help plan a protest of a scheduled speech by George H. W. Bush, then U.S. representative to the United Nations - a speech likely to include a defense of the Nixon administration's Vietnam War policies. The students told Alinsky they were thinking about picketing or disrupting Bush's address. That's the wrong approach, he rejoined, not very creative - and besides causing a disruption might get them thrown out of school. He told them, instead, to go to hear the speech dressed as members of the Ku Klux Klan, and whenever Bush said something in defense of the Vietnam War, they should cheer and wave placards reading, ‘The KKK supports Bush.' And that is what they did, with very successful, attention-getting results."

*Scott was filmed shouting down a town hall attendee claiming that he was not from his district and that if he wished to discuss health care, he should call his office for an appointment. Those who fact checked, discovered that the protester, a physician, was from Scott's district and had tried to call him several times, but never could get an appointment. Most national news stories have omitted these salient facts, just as they ignored the "Bushitler" signs and pictures.

Conspiracy?

I would have posted sooner, but Google had a problem and I couldn't access the site. Let's see, in the last week I've had trouble with my computer, with back-ups, with the power coming into my house, and with Google. It's a good thing I'm not paranoid. ;-)

It’s Not about Health Care

It really is about control.

If it were about health care, we would all know all of the glorious details of the proposed legislation. Supporters of Obama’s plan would extol its virtues every time they met a constituent or a microphone. But we’ve heard NOTHING about the specifics of the plan that might make it great legislation. Congressional Clowns are NOT rushing to the head of the line to sign up for its benevolent provisions. Instead of defending or promoting the bill, so far we have only heard about how evil/heartless/greedy/stupid its opponents are.

Ignoring the basic facts of medical care, physician specialties, and hospital expenses, Obama has repeatedly insisted that pediatricians and endocrinologists, not surgeons, perform surgeries and personally pocket all of the money involved. Apparently he thinks hospitals, nurses, equipment, etc. are free and the entire bill goes directly to the physician's bank account. Congressional Clowns are so incensed about the evil insurance companies trying to make a profit in spite of government regulations, that they’ve now changed the name to Insurance Reform instead of Healthcare Reform. The news media eagerly perform public relations work for the cause by portraying all the opponents as racists, mobsters, or neo Nazis. But no one praises plan specifics.

The details of the plan now known to the public contain troubling provisions that do more toward increasing government control over the citizens than toward increasing the quality or quantity of health care for citizens. For example, there is the much discussed required end of life counseling for all people over 65. Even if euthanasia is not discussed during these meetings, the very notion of required counseling with a government official, speaks more of control than of caring.

And there is the provision in sections 440 and 1904 in the House Bill for other government agents to come into homes to “teach” parents and prospective parents how to interact with their children. That such an idea would even be considered should terrify any thinking person. Read Chuck Norris’ column, if you’d like more information, but you already know that has NOTHING to do with helping some poor person pay his medical bills.

Then there is the small matter of universality. Even after 10 years of implementation (and untold amounts of money), around 17,000,000 people will still not be included in the program. Why are we going to all this trouble and expense for less than perfect results?

So what’s really going on? Nothing less than the biggest power grab in our nation’s history. The feds took over all the larger banks and AIG in the fall, then added the once mighty automobile industry to their collection. Already an unelected, unconfirmed czar controls executive pay rates in major businesses. Now they want control of our great health care system, about 17% of the GDP, and through that takeover, more control over individual lives.

The only thing left will be passing the Cap and Trade bill to turn us all into serfs.

Shock! We ALREADY Spend More on Healthcare Than Other Countries!

According to Americans for Tax Reform, the US government already spends more money per capita on health care than countries with socialized medicine. Italy, Japan, Australia, Ireland, UK, Sweden, Germany, Canada, and France all spend less than the over $3,000 the US pays out for various government programs. When you think about it, it becomes painfully obvious that the answer to health care costs in the USA is NOT to add more government programs, but to reduce them. Only free market competition can improve products while reducing costs.

If the government had been in control of personal computer market back in the late seventies, the cost of the average home computer would be several thousand dollars by now, and we probably would not be too far advanced beyond the 48kb of memory that the first Apples had. We purchased an Apple II in 1978 for $2,638 (that would be $8,726.97 in today's dollars) plus shipping costs. The few programs that were available at the time were on black disks that really were floppy. We had to insert a different disk each time we wanted to use a different program.

Just 21 years later, the cheapest Apple costs $999 (or $301.98 in 1978 dollars) and comes with 2gb of memory, plus audio, video, color, Internet, and wireless capabilities. And it's portable. That represents an increase in memory of 6 degrees of magnitude - from thousands to billions, not to mention all the ancillary improvements.

We can all thank heaven for the competition between Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak. And pray that more free market competition will be allowed in health care, not a one payer system that only cuts costs by eliminating services.

The American Way

Followers of the American Way instinctively try to fix "it" themselves before asking for help. Although they quickly and graciously help any neighbor in need, decades of public relations efforts have still not diminished their internal reluctance for government welfare. American Way people have been accused of too rugged an individualism, yet, they have also crafted a society richer in personal freedoms, a higher standard of living and more technological advances than any other group in history.

It's Worse Than They Will Admit

Obama supporters reported with great pride that the unemployment rate was ONLY 9.4% and they proclaimed that recession may be on the rebound. His spokesmen were honest enough to admit that although today's report was fairly good, the unemployment rate could still top 10%.

But if you go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, you can observe all the different ways that unemployment rates are computed. These are the seasonally adjusted figures for July, 2009.

U-1 Persons unemployed 15 weeks or longer, as a percent of the civilian labor force.......................5.1

U-2 Job losers and persons who completed temporary jobs, as a percent of the civilian labor force....6.2

U-3 Total unemployed, as a percent of the civilian labor force (official unemployment rate)..........9.4

U-4 Total unemployed plus discouraged workers, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus discouraged workers...............................9.8

U-5 Total unemployed, plus discouraged workers, plus all other marginally attached workers, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all marginally attached workers.......................10.7

U-6 Total unemployed, plus all marginally attached workers, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all marginally attached workers........16.3

Where's The Outrage?

Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida resigned his office today with more than a year left in his term. He gave no reason except that it was time for him to return home, but so far I haven’t heard any outcry from the media or the Democrats about his being a quitter. I guess resigning before the end of your term is only bad if you’re a governor in Alaska.

Twice As Hard


Obama encouraged his supporters to 'punch back twice as hard' when facing opposition to his health care "reform." We're not sure just what he intended, but that marked the beginning of altercations between opponents and supporters of Democrat plans for changing the health care system in the US as noted in the video above. A black man remains in the hospital in St. Louis after being attacked and sent to the emergency room during a town hall meeting held by Russ Carnahan.

Private Jets for Me, But Not for Thee

Nancy Pelosi thinks it’s extravagant when corporate executive fly in private jets, but it’s “necessary” for members of Congress. She just upgraded the private fleet for Congressional officials by 8 luxury jets to the tune of $550,000,000. Of course that figure just represents the purchase price. Providing the pilots, mechanics, other personnel and services is the responsibility of the Air Force.

Living the good life is so much fun, especially when other people finance it. And why worry about the growing numbers of unemployed and underemployed when you've got trips to make? Let them eat cake.

If I Didn't Know Better

I would swear that there's a conspiracy against me and my blog. Just as I started to write this morning, a Georgia Power crew arrived to take down the power pole near my house and put up a new one. That means power will be out until they finish. Why, oh why, don't they change over to underground utilities? Power poles and overhead lines are so twentieth century.

August 4

Yesterday was a very important day. We found pictures and videos of Obama celebrating his birthday and sharing birthday cake with Helen Thomas everywhere.

August 4 is also the birthday of our Coast Guard; this year commemorates 219 years of service. But I didn't hear anything about those who protect our coast, did you?

The Greatest Threat We Face

America's greatest threat is not just from a nuclear device, although a nuclear attack would certainly be horrible. Our greatest threat from rogue countries is from ballistic missiles. Such a missile could arrive at its US target within 33 minutes from either Iran or North Korea. It would not only carry a nuclear bomb big enough to wipe out a large city, but also electromagnetic devices that would destroy our entire electrical grid.

Think about it. Suppose Washington, DC and/or New York City destroyed by a bomb and the rest of the country paralysed by lack of electricity. How could we communicate? Carry on business? Take instructions on how to fight back? Get medical care? How long would it take just to get the power back on?

The fact that they've been allowed to make laws for the people that excluded themselves is probably why they now act as if they're royalty and we're serfs. It must stop. The same healthcare and insurance laws must apply to every person, including Senators, Representatives, and Federal Employees.

Bubba Diplomacy

Although we’re delighted that Laura Ling and Euna Lee are now free, we can’t keep from wondering what the US gave away in order to obtain the release of the two American journalists held by North Korea. To the untrained eye, President Clinton just showed up for a friendly visit and Kim Jong Il suddenly agreed to let the young women go free.

But it’s certain that all was arranged ahead of time even though Obama’s spokesmen valiantly tried to play down any collaboration on his part.

However, the real danger, as former Ambassador Bolton pointed out, is that such diplomacy puts Americans at greater risks in the future. What promises will Tehran now extract from us to set the three American hikers free? Will future hostages require presidential rescue, complete with escalating demands and concessions? Will more Americans now be at risk?

But, putting aside such worries, their release provided an effective distraction from Obama’s sinking poll numbers, especially in the health care arena. In that respect, Bubba Diplomacy worked.

Actions Have Consequences – Always

It seems that all Democrat initiatives come complete with Terrible Problems, Evil Villains, and Wonderful Saviors, i.e. Democrat politicians. At first, the Evil Villains were Bush and Cheney, then their anger centered on the executives of large companies who had redecorated their offices, flown in corporate jets, or worked for a $1 salary with a “bonus” at the end of the year.

Just last week, Nancy Pelosi officially declared those evil insurance companies to be America’s newest enemies because they are making billions of dollars. She ignored the need for profits in order for the 13,000 or so insurance companies to stay in business, hire employees, or expand services. And no mention was made of the role of trial lawyers or superfluous government mandates in adding to health care costs.

But, has anyone thought about the stock market or our economy when insurance companies go by the wayside? All I can foresee is more costs for the government, less tax revenue, more unemployment, and less freedom.

Contact Your Congressional Clowns, If You Can

Many Congressional Clowns have been surprised by voters’ reaction to the proposed health care “reform.” Recently more than one normally placid town hall meeting has erupted in loud boos from angry constituents. Consequently, a lot of townhall meetings for August have either been cancelled or changed to “by invitation only.” None of my Clowns (Senators or Representative) have even posted open meetings with the people they claim to represent on their websites.

As an end run around this willful blindness, the Tea Party Patriots are calling for a Recess Rally at each Representative’s local office on Saturday, August 22 at 12 noon. Go here for more details. And then please show up with as many people as possible to ask questions, demand thoughtful answers, and let your clown know we do not want yet another expensive, inefficient, dictatorial government program.

It’s The Little Things That Reveal The Most

President Barack Obama won his election by appearing to be a messianic creature far more mature and knowledgeable than the average voter. However, occasional glimpses behind the Wizard’s curtain unnerve even his most ardent followers.

1. There was the infamous picture of him with both hands on his crotch while others on stage placed their right hands over their hearts during the national anthem. No, the picture does not absolutely reveal what’s in his heart and mind as far as patriotism goes, but it does make one wonder, especially when he was careful to place his hand over his heart when Ghana’s national anthem was played in his presence. His effusive apologies for the United States every time he goes abroad do nothing to reassure most Americans either.

2. Every popular magazine article about grieving counsels those in crisis to avoid making important decisions until some healing has occurred. Astute counselors always encourage those suffering any emotional loss to avoid making important decisions for six months to a year. Yet with Americans still reeling from the pain from losing 40% to 50% of their savings, Obama heartlessly pushes massive, drastic, society changing laws through Congress as fast as possible. And his chosen spokesman, Rahm Emmanuel gleefully claims “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” It’s almost like saying to be sure and kick the guy while he’s down.

3. The picture posted on the White House Blog (scroll down that page to see the picture) last Thursday evening reveals another unsettling glimpse behind the curtain. Obama, the self appointed savior of mankind, thoughtlessly strides ahead while his crippled friend, Dr. Gates, struggles going down the steps. Fortunately Sgt. Crowley was there. He not only forgave the man who had repeatedly called him a racist; he gallantly helped him keep his balance.
