Homeland Security???

Are the anarchists listed with the other local threats to the security of the US put out by the Department of Homeland Security? As I recall, that list featured Pro-lifers, gun owners, and veterans, but I don't specifically remember any anarchy group.

The anarchists are demonstrating in Pittsburgh now. There have been arrests, businesses have boarded up their windows, and police wear riot gear, complete with personal shields. I haven't heard any numbers, but anyone can see from the pictures that the number of demonstrators is minuscule compared to the September 12 event in Washington, DC.

The Tea Party protesters, who filled the streets and side streets from the Washington Monument to the Capitol, cleaned up the after themselves, required no police outfitted with riot gear, and no arrests were made. More than a million people gathered to protest intrusive government, but there were no "incidents."

Why are these the people Homeland Security is worried about?

The silence of the mass media about the murder of a prolife activist in Michigan is a dramatic contrast to the keening over the murder of Dr. Tiller, an abortionist. As of today there have been 19 stories about James Pouillion who was shot as he stood in front of a high school holding a pro life sign, while there were at least 643 different stories about Tiller in the mass media.

When Tiller was killed, every Pro Life organization leader in the United States, Catholic Bishops, and Protestant pastors immediately condemned the murder and offered prayers for Tiller and his family. So far, I have heard of no one who has condemned Pouillion's killer.

Neither have there been blanket accusations about all abortion supporters being budding terrorists. However all prolife supporters are still on the Homeland Security Watch list for terrorism. And no one has called for a ban on private ownership of guns because Pouillion was murdered with a gun.

No wonder most mass media outlets are going broke. They have become public relations offices, not news organizations.

An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week, which I quote:

"If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers per month.

The firearm death rate in Washington , DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period. That means you are about 25 percent more likely to be shot and killed in the US capital, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US , than you are in Iraq"

Conclusion: "The US should pull out of Washington "

Let’s Control Cars, Alcohol, Swimming Pools, and . . .

I understand Diane Sawyer featured a story on ABC Friday night suggesting that gun ownership is at least partially to blame for the recent spate of multiple homicides. Any time people use guns to murder others, gun control advocates express similar sentiments.

However, it’s based on sentiment, not on rational thought. Since 1977, 27 additional states have passed laws allowing citizens the right to carry concealed weapons if they passed a background check, paid their fees, and completed a training class. In these states, deaths and injuries from multiple-victim public shootings fell by 60% to 78%.


Increased gun control inevitably leads to increased homicide rates. For example, the USSR with strict gun control since 1917, had homicide rates several times that of the US. Jeff Miron, Boston University, studied 44 countries and discovered that “stricter gun control laws tend to lead to higher homicide rates.”

It’s also interesting that deaths from drunk driving kill far more people (15, 387 in 2007) than both purposeful and accidental gun related deaths each year. For every 1,000,000,000 guns. one child dies accidentally, but for every 11,000 swimming pools, one child drowns accidentally. So why don’t these people call for abolishing swimming pools, cars, or alcohol? They are involved in far more deaths each year than guns.
