Just in time for the Tax Day Tea Parties, Gallup released a new survey reporting 48% of taxpayers believe that their own federal income tax rate level is about right. Mass media journalists happily pointed out that was the highest satisfaction rate since 1956. Hmmm.
Did they also mention that about 40% of Americans pay no federal income tax? No wonder they’re satisfied.
Or did anyone point out that this year people are still covered by the Bush tax rate cuts although Congress intends to go back to the old higher levels as soon as possible?
No, the emphasis was on repudiating the message from the Tea Parties.
